Facilities at Hill Barn

Chiropody

A private* chiropodist visits Hill Barn every 6 weeks. The NHS chiropodist visits those clients that are eligible for NHS treatment.
* Private chiropody incurs an extra charge.

Physiotherapy

A private* physiotherapist visits Hill Barn every week. The NHS physiotherapist visits as required.
* Private physiotherapy incurs an extra charge.

Dentist

Dental visits can be arranged on request*, and residents are encouraged to see their own dentist if practical.
* Private dental treatment incurs an extra charge.

Optician

Healthcall Optical Services* visit Hill Barn regularly throughout the year to maintain the health of the residents’ sight.
* Private optical services incurs an extra charge

Day Care

Hill Barn offers day care facilities for those who wish to benefit from the warm and friendly atmosphere offered. All meals are included and bath or shower offered if required.
Day care residents may partake in any of Hill Barns many and varied activities on offer.
Day care charges are available on request from the management.

Doctor / District Nurse

Hill Barn believes that continuity of medical care is of utmost importance to residents, and as such, encourages residents to maintain registration with their original doctor if within the locality, and with the doctors agreement. If however, a resident comes from outside the local area then registration with Reepham Surgery is recommended with whom Hill Barn has a close and effective relationship.
District Nurses call on a regular basis as required. If a resident wishes to be self-medicating and following a risk assessment it is safe for them to do so then all help and advice is given. Otherwise the staff under the doctor’s instructions will manage resident’s medication.

Hairdressing

The hairdresser* visits weekly.
* Hairdresser incurs an extra charge.

Entertainment / Activities

Hill Barn believes in encouraging residents to maintain contact with family and friends, and any community involvement prior to admission. We believe that new friendships and relationships enhance and provide fulfilment to life. To facilitate this activities in-house are organised such as exercise, bingo, quizzes and reminiscing.
Parties and excursions* are organised, such as summer barbeques and garden parties. Resident’s are encouraged to maintain any local community activities such as social clubs.
* Excursions may incur an extra charge.

Reflexology and Aromatherapy

A registered *Reflexologist is available for regular reflexology and aromatherapy sessions.
*This incurs an extra charge

Newspapers

Newspapers* and magazines* can be ordered and delivered on a daily basis.
* Newspapers/Magazines incur an extra charge.

Religious Services

Hill Barn takes all reasonable steps to ensure that each resident’s wishes are known and understood in relation to the practice of their chosen religion.
At present the incumbents are:
Church of England and the Roman Catholic Reverend from Reepham provide Holy Communion regularly.

Pets

Pets will be considered on an individual basis, any costs involved with its care and welfare e.g. food, and veterinary charges etc will be met by the resident or their family.

Residents Meetings

Hill Barn believes it is of vital importance that resident’s wishes are taken into account on the daily aspects of Home life. The managers therefore have daily contact and consultation with every resident to ascertain views, opinions and any concerns they may have, to maintain and encourage social interaction.
Resident/Relatives meetings are held twice a year. The date will be posted on the resident/relatives notice board to enable forward planning and refreshments will be provided.
Satisfaction questionnaires are given to residents/relatives, staff and stake holders twice a year and the results will be published.
We have a suggestion box situated at the entrance to allow everyone an opportunity to offer feedback on the service, and offer suggestions for improvement.

Laundry

All personal clothing should be clearly labelled with nametapes and be machine washable.
Hill Barn does not take responsibility for any items damaged that are not labelled as machine washable.
*Dry cleaning can be arranged. *This incurs an extra charge

Financial Matters

Small sums of personal monies can be held in the home’s safe. This should not exceed £100.00 at one time. It is advisable that items of great value are not kept within the home unless appropriate insurance is arranged. Personal effects kept by the Resident are kept at their own risk.
For security reasons, access to the home’s safe is restricted to the Management only. Therefore, if monies are required at weekends please arrange with the Manager preferably by 5.00pm on Friday.

Hospital Appointments

Hospital transport can be arranged for appointments if required.
*If the resident requires an escort this can be arranged. *This incurs an extra charge

Local Transport

The village is on a local bus route to Norwich, Fakenham and Dereham and private taxis are also available.

Telephone and Internet Access

Residents may wish to install their own private line provided by BT in their room. The resident/relative will be responsible for organizing connection and all payments.
The home has its own computer available for Residents to use with E-mail and Skype facilities.
